The Flick Chick fills you in on the scoop about a funny & original new sit com web series, TWO DOORS DOWN.

TWO DOORS DOWN is about a (not quite amicably) divorced couple who share custody of their young son, and the complications and humor that results when they are suddenly living two doors down from one another. Set in Columbus, Ohio — the series features creator and director Louie Cowan as the father, a frustrated actor who makes infomercials, and Amber Mikesell as the devoted (and remarried) mother.

The 12 episode series (5 to 7 minutes each) was filmed in an improvisational style such as shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development and the movies of Christopher Guest –all of which are partially scripted and improvised.

Created by Cowan and scOtt Summitt (no, that’s NOT a typo…scOtt really spells his first name that way) –TWO DOORS DOWN also features Summitt as Cowan’s best friend, in addition to a very funny and talented cast of actors who seem to have had a field day with the improvisational style of the series.

TWO DOORS DOWN will officially launch on Sunday, August 21, 2011 with a big Red Carpet Premiere Launch event at 2 pm at Studio 35 Theatre in Clintonville, Ohio. Cast and crew will be on hand to mix, mingle and enjoy a preview screening of several of the episodes, right before the first one hits the web early that evening.

Future episodes of the series will be posted every two weeks and can be viewed on the series website, TwoDoorsDownTV.com.

Click the video to check out the Flick Chick’s thoughts about this very fun web project (and her very personal experience on this series), then click over to TwoDoorsDownTV.com to find out more about it for yourself.

STAY TUNED!

Guess what happens when two life-long film lovers get together over breakfast, discuss favorite flicks and their desire for more film discussion groups here in Central Ohio?

They decide to create one on their own.

That’s the origin of the OSU Theatre and Friends Film-Discussion Group, a newly-formed University and community-based film group that sponsors film series that invite audiences to participate in post-film discussions in person and online.

Thanks to that early morning breakfast brainstorm a few months ago, Central Ohio film lovers are now in for a treat when the “Kiss Me c/Kate: 3 Great Actresses, 7 Classic Films” discussion series kicks off at the Gateway Film Center on The Ohio State University campus, beginning Sunday, May 23rd.

The six-week series features a selection of seven films by three of the silver screen’s most talented actresses, all of whom just happen to be named Kate/Cate:

KATE HEPBURN, KATE WINSLET

and CATE BLANCHETT.

I must disclose that it was yours truly, the Flick Chick, who was dishin’ about movies at that breakfast meetup a few months ago, along with my good friend Clay Lowe. No ordinary film lover, among his many accomplishments Clay just happens to be an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Theatre at OSU. He also spent eight years discussing film as co-host of “It’s Movie Time” on WCBE-FM and spent many years as the co-host and programmer for the Columbus Museum of Art Film Series.

Let’s just say, “When Kelly met Clay”, this Flick Chick knew she had found a friend and a film series was born.

As series hosts and programmers, Clay and I will briefly introduce the films and each weekly screening and post-film discussion will include special invited guests from the worlds of film, theatre, art, music, dance, education and the media.

All screenings will be held at 2 pm on Sunday afternoons at the Gateway Film Center located on the OSU campus, with the discussion immediately following. The price is $5 per show and tickets may be purchased online at the Gateway website or at the box office.

In addition to the six Sunday afternoon selections, a special one-time only Tuesday evening screening of a newly-restored The African Queen, starring Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 1.

The series kicked off Sunday, May 23 with one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time, The Philadelphia Story. A wonderfully witty six-time Oscar nominee that turned star Kate Hepburn from an actress labeled “box office poison” into one of Hollywood’s most esteemed leading ladies.

The series continues this Sunday with Pat and Mike, a classic romantic comedy with Hepburn as a talented lady athlete (golf & tennis) and Spencer Tracy as the street smart sports promoter with ideas on “owning” her. Hmmm….one guess as to how that turns out.

With supporting turns from Aldo Ray and Charles Bronson, this sports-themed romantic comedy from famed writing duo Garson Kanin & Ruth Gordon has romantic sparks a-plenty & some of the wittiest banter you’ll ever hear on the big screen.

Special discussion guests for Pat and Mike will be photographer/educator Jocelyn Nevel and Alan Woods, faculty member in the OSU Department of Theatre.

If you truly love movies and enjoy thoughtful and engaging film discussion, make plans to see these three great Kates/Cates in action and attend the “Kiss Me c/Kate: 3 Great Actresses, 7 Classic Films” series.

I just returned from the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film & Interactive Confrerence in Austin, Texas. It was truly an awesome five days of film screenings and technology and film-related presentations and panel discussions.

This Flick Chick was in movie geek girl heaven.

(I’ll have much more on the conference and my experiences in additional postings on here soon.)

I first want to fill you in on some cool info about an upcoming “reboot” of the PREDATOR film franchise.

Don’t groan people….this new one is under the guidance of none other than writer/director/producer Robert Rodriguez (SPY KIDS, SIN CITY, GRINDHOUSE, SHARK BOY & LAVA GIRL to name a few).

Does that pique your curiosity? It did mine.

I was invited to participate in a ‘First Look’ screening for selected members of the press attending SXSW, and a press conference afterward with Rodriguez, director Nimrod Antal and the lead of the film, Oscar-winner Adrien Brody.

I was in a group of about 15 who showed up at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz theater early last Saturday morning to view two PREDATORS trailers (slightly different versions) and an extended scene from the film.

I have to admit, I’ve seen the original 1987 PREDATOR with Arnold Schwarzenegger (a great action flick)….but I have not seen any of the subsequent films in the franchise. The short & sweet description of this new flick?

A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, the film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

In addition to Adrien Brody, the film stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne. Oh yeah, and some really nasty aliens.

I usually find Robert Rodriguez’ choices interesting and somewhat surprising. Reading about his involvement in this new film as writer/producer, definitely got my hopes up.

I was not disappointed.

The trailers were suspenseful, eerie, action-packed and succeeded in making me jump out of my seat….twice.

(Yes, I jumped in the same exact spot during both trailer viewings. Yes, I’m a wuss.)

Best of all?

The Predator sighting. With the appropriately ominous music and mood, it reminded me of the first time I saw JAWS. You know that big ‘ol shark is there in the water…you can feel it & hear it, but you can’t quite see it. And then when you finally do?

Wowza.

After not quite 10 minutes of viewing, I was pretty much ready to jump on board the PREDATORS train. Hopefully, the wuss in me would survive it.

What sealed the deal?

Listening to Robert, Nim and Adrien personally discuss the whys, the hows and some of the experience of creating this new addition to the much-loved PREDATOR film franchise.

Robert (on the great ensemble cast): “We wanted to have each one of these characters feel like they could be the stars of their own movie, every one.”

Nim: “We’re trying to take it back to what works in classic horror films….trying to keep the monster in the shadows, instead of throwing him in your face, right off the bat.”

Adrien: “The intention of hiring me to play Royce was to delve into the flawed tragic hero and not this typical overtly physically imposing character.”

Sounds good to me.

So take a peek at the just released ‘First Look’ trailer for PREDATORS 2010, with an introduction by Robert Rodriguez. The film opens everywhere on Friday, July 7th.

As I like to do, I plan to see it opening weekend with a big, fun crowd of other movie lovers.

I may squint my eyes and jump out of my seat for part of the ride, but I will definitely be on board.

STAY TUNED!

Of course, we had to have a little wager on just who would pick the most Oscar winners from all the nominated categories.

Hey Movie Lovers –
What’s better than the Academy Awards red carpet & ceremony, filled with the movie stars we know and love, dressed to the nines and ready to celebrate?

Well….how about the Flick Chick live-blogging ALL of the action with her certified movie-lover style & snark?

Yes, you read that right.

The Flick Chick & her movie-lovin’ pal Blantonious will be live-blogging the ENTIRE Oscar night — from the first starlet’s step onto the red carpet….until the last little golden guy goes home (that’s from 6 pm until approximately 11:30 pm….whoa).

Even better….we want ALL OF YOU to chime in & join the party!

At the time of the event you can simply come back to http://live.FlickChick.TV (there will be a link in the menu bar also) and click the “play” button in the Cover it Live Widget. That’s all there is to it.

We’d love to have you jump in and join us with your comments that evening, don’t worry…no techie experience needed!

You can stop by for a little — or for the whole, long (VERY long…) night!

Oh yeah, by the way….you DON’T have to love the movies as much as we do (we know, we’re a little wacky), but please — bring your sense of humor!

We look forward to seeing (and hearing from) you soon!

Live-Blog Event Timeline:

6 to 8 pm - Red Carpet Arrivals
